About Me

Growing up, I was a huge video game and sports fan (and still am). Watching NASCAR, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams and Roger Federer, along with playing games like HaloLeft 4 Dead 1 and Left 4 Dead 2, and some Mario Party 5 and Mario Kart Wii, were some of my favorite memories from childhood. And during COVID, I watched live streamers and e-sports players on Twitch.tv nearly every day. I still go on to Twitch, but I also get to watch in-person sporting events every now again.

On the flip side, I became more politically and civically engaged following the Parkland shooting, such as leading my school's walkout and symbolic protest. And during my time at VCU (and after), I got to work with some of the coolest Democratic campaigns and organizations to learn more about communications, social media, email marketing, digital fundraising, as well as policy advoacy. These organizations include the Virginia Democrats, Biden-Harris 2020, Blueprint Interactive, Rising Tide Interactive, and the We Are Home immigrant rights campaign. I even started Students Demand Action at VCU, an organization focused on ending gun violence in the VCU and metro Richmond area.

These two contrasting experiences ultimately led to my master's thesis, which miraculously combines both gaming and political science. I examine copyright law, content moderation, and how each have influenced Twitch.tv's copyright guidelines over the last 5 years following the nearly 2,000 notices Twitch received from the music industry back in June of 2020. On the side, I've been working on a Digital Humanities postgraduate certificate with UVA, where I strive to use more quantitative methods to examine the human record. At some point, I'll have to update this by saying I am an official graduate from the University of Virginia!
